• Assessments

Ashby Schools uses local assessments to monitor student learning and state and national standardized assessments to measure student achievement, growth and readiness for college and career.

The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) are the main state assessments that measure student progress towards Minnesota's academic standards. Students take tests in the following subjects and grades:

        • Reading: Grades 3-8, 10
        • Mathematics: Grades 3-8, 11
        • Science: Grades 5, 8, 9-12

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) has put together FAQs in regard to Why Statewide Test Results Matter. Any student not participating in the statewide assessments will not receive an individual score and will be counted at “not proficient” for the purpose of school and district accountability. If a parent or guardian chooses to opt their child out of testing, a refusal form must be filled out and turned in to their appropriate school to be in effect. This form must be completed annually as a matter of record for the district.

Looking for information on how Ashby students perform on assessments? The Minnesota Report Card gives you easy access to understandable district and school data. This tool is designed to provide parents, educators, schools, districts and citizens with easy access to district and school information, test results, demographic information, and other critical data in a centralized location.

For information about interpreting and using the data on the Minnesota Report Card and MDE Data center, please see the Minnesota Report Card Information Guide.
