Where: Wadena – Deer Creek High School in Wadena, MN
Why: We want you to come and participate in a junior high track meet to see what track and field is all about. WDC High School is hosting a track meet for grades 5-8. You will only participate against kids in your grade, but will get to see the other kids competing as well. Students will get to do up to 4 events in races such as the 100 and 200m, and 400m dash, 100m hurdles, field events like the high jump, long jump, shot put and discus. See the backside of this paper for event options.
How: Please join us at track practices on May 12 and 18 from 3:15 – 5:25 in Ashby to learn and practice the events. Brandon-Evansville kids can ride the track practice bus to and from practice, Ashby kids meet in the Ashby commons area after school until the start of practice. The bus will return to Evansville at about 5:40 in the back parking lot and Brandon 5:50 in front of the school.
On the day of the meet, May 19, students will load a bus with the A-B-E junior high track team. Evansville will load at 1:45 from the front of the school, and Ashby at 2:00. The bus will return to each of the schools following the track meet where parents can pick them up. We expect to be home by about 8:00 p.m. in Ashby, 8:15 Evansville, and approximately 8:30 in Brandon. Parents are invited to attend the track meet to cheer on their son/daughter. If they are going to ride home with a parent, you will need to sign them out with an ABE coach.
Chaperones: Jennifer Froemming, head A-B-E track coach
Sam Lange, assistant A-B-E track coach
Several members of the A-B-E varsity track team.
The 2 track coaches and varsity team members will be there to help you get to your event(s) and help you learn the event.
You will need to bring back the attached permission slip and the events you would like to try by Friday, May 5, 2017 to your teacher. On the day of the track meet, don’t forget to wear tennis shoes, shorts and a t-shirt and/or sweatpants and sweatshirts. You will also need to pack your supper and bottled water.
