Driver Education Program--Ashby High SchoolDriver Education is one of the most important courses that your son or daughter will enroll in. The aim and intent of this course is to develop a safe & skillful driver able to cope with present and future traffic situations. Only your son or daughter can determine the degree to which this knowledge will be applied. Our program is very comprehensive and is taught by professional instructor Andy Peterson, who has his State of Minnesota Driver Education Licensure. There are three phases of the program. They are as follows…. PHASE 1: Classroom Instruction June 4-15, 2018 Student should be 15 years of age or older before, during, or shortly after the class. Birthdates in the summer months will be accepted. Students must be at least 15 years old to take their state permit test. It is hard to retain information if there is a long time between the class and them turning 15. Classes will be held Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-12:00 AM. The ten classroom sessions will meet the state required 30 hours of classroom instruction. Students must attend all classes. In the event that a student misses a class, they will need to make it up immediately after the last class. The cost for the first Phase is $75. PHASE 2: Parent Awareness Class Wednesday June 6, 2018, 7:00pm-8:30pm Parent Awareness Class is a 90 minute optional class for parents. The class will provide information on teen driving risks, laws, and the important role parents play in teaching proper driving techniques. Parents/guardians who attend this phase will be the primary driving supervisor and spend the majority of the time in the vehicle when the student is driving with their instruction permit. By attending this class, the required hours of supervised driving will be reduced from 50 hours down to 40 hours with 15 being done at night. There is no cost for Phase 2. PHASE 3: Behind-the-Wheel Instruction Throughout The Summer (By Appointment) The final phase of the Ashby Driver Education Program is the completion of 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. This phase begins AFTER the phase 1 classroom portion and AFTER the student passes the permit test. Instructor must see the student’s permit before each session of B.T.W.. Instructional sessions include street instruction using city streets, rural highways, gravel roads, and Interstate 94. After the student earns his or her permit, it is very important that parents ride with students to help supervise, instruct, and reinforce the skills learned in classroom and B.T.W. Contact Andy Peterson to schedule the B.T.W. sessions. The cost for phase 3 is $225 for the 6 hours required. If you have any questions please feel to call, email, or text Andy Peterson.
