Research has shown that much of who we are is shaped by our experiences throughout our lives. As we navigate childhood, what we experience slowly shapes our view on the world around us. We develop who we are, what we like and dream about who we want to become all based on the positive and negative experiences we have. For some, a negative experience will deter us from working through a challenging situation while others, with the proper support will fight through the uncomfortable feelings and find a way to succeed. We call this stick-with-it-ness: Grit. In a world that provides instant gratification in almost any situation, people who have “grit” will be able to overcome the times where answers are not readily available, or a challenge at home or at work seems overwhelming. Grit is what helps us take any situation and turn it into a positive outcome. The following two students are being recognized by their teachers as being students who have characteristics that show us that no matter what life has faced them or will face them, they have the character, grit, determination and work ethic to come out happy, healthy and successful in whatever they choose to do.
