December Students of the Month...

1/29/2020

Habitudes are a focus on three characteristics: 1. Your behaviors 2. Your Habits 3. Your Attitude. If you want to be successful your behavior needs to be one that reflects consistency in your effort to be successful. Taking care of your body, your mind, and your soul. Your habits, are what you do on a daily basis. If you want to be successful in your schoolwork, you would create a habit of doing your homework at a specific time of the day. If you want to be a better athlete, you make a habit of getting up early to work out or staying after practice to get in some extra shots, run a couple of extra laps and so on. Your attitude drives the other two factors. If your attitude is that you can’t accomplish your goal and can’t do better on a math test, or you can’t make the starting team in your sport…. You won’t.

Wanting to be great, wanting to make a change, wanting to be better in some facet of your life is the first step into making a change, but your habitudes are what is going to help you get from lying in bed thinking about making a change and actually doing it. Successful people are intentional with their behaviors are strict with their regimens and habits and have a positive attitude even when obstacles slow their progress down.

The following students have found a way to be successful through their own habitudes and are being rewarded with being honored as December students of the month.

For their efforts, will the following two students come down to receive a certificate for December Student of the month, along with a free lunch from one of our restaurants downtown?

In junior high, the following student was recognized by his teachers as being an amazing young man. He always participates, offers insightful ideas and observations, and volunteers to help in any way he can. He is respectful, kind, and a true leader. He is also known to be curious, willing to do what is needed, always shows initiative, thinks beyond the lesson and applies it to other things, is kind and always polite. For his hard work, passion for learning, and great work ethic would Kenneth Spielman please come down to collect your Student of the Month reward.

The following senior high student continues to impress her teachers every day.  She is always positive, hard-working, and genuinely kind to everyone around her. She is helpful and thinks of others just as highly as herself. She is bright and very enthusiastic about learning. She's the tops! Another teacher mentioned that she has the most beautiful spirit about her and always accepts challenges with determination and positivity. She has high expectations for herself, big goals, patient, studious, willing to participate in all class activities to learn. For her hard work, passion for learning, great work ethic, and humble heart would Kennady Skougard please come down to collect your Student of the Month reward.

    Students of the Month

Once a month we will take the time to recognize students who show the Ashby way on a continuous basis. The two students have been recognized by their teachers as students who have stood out amongst their peers to show the school and community the true meaning of dedication, passion, and hard work.

Ashby High School honors one student in junior high and one student in senior high each month for their hard work and dedication to the school and the community. Students are nominated monthly by teachers for their outstanding achievement in Citizenship, Academics, and Leadership. Students with the most nominations are awarded the title of Student of the Month. Below is a short description of qualities looked for in a potential Student of the Month.

Citizenship: Has a good sense of humor; is not critical of others; accepts criticism; is coach-able; is polite; obeys rules; follows directions; is a good sport; is dependable; helps others; and is honest. Also taken into consideration is someone who is a leader in several kinds of activities or who stands out for something positive he or she has done through words or examples. A good citizen/leader is someone who behaves not only in the classroom but all around the community.

Academics: Asks intelligent questions; uses vocabulary effectively; achieves at or above ability level work and makes up work without being reminded; and will go the extra mile.

Most Improved: Recognizes students who have worked on improving their grades or their behavior.

Sportsmanship: Refers to demonstrating fairness, self-control, courage, and persistence, treats others fairly, maintains self-control in dealing with others, respects both authority and opponents, and is a positive influence on everyone around them.

For their efforts, students have their photo taken, receive a certificate, along with a free lunch from one of our restaurants downtown.
