Once a month we take the time to recognize students who show the Ashby way on a continuous basis. The following two students have been recognized by their teachers as students who have stood out amongst their peers to show the school and community the true meaning of dedication, passion, and hard work.
In junior high, Ryleigh Brendmoen was recognized for always being responsible, having a tremendous work ethic and always being a team player. One teacher commented that Ryleigh is conscientious and always upbeat. She is friendly and kind to everyone, and her smile lights up the room.
Senior high student, Anissa Heinrich was recognized by her teachers as being someone who always tries her best, sets a great example for her peers and is never afraid to ask questions. Anissa is known to be a hard worker, a great student, and one who ensures that quality is at the forefront of everything she does.
For their efforts, the students receive a certificate, along with a free lunch from one of our restaurants downtown.
There are many students who stand out to us on a daily basis, but these two have really shown us this month the true meaning of being an Arrow. Thank you for hard work, your caring and thoughtful actions, and your continuous effort in striving for success. Congratulation you two!

Ashby Students of the Month of April are sophomore Christian Norby and eighth grader Jaden Norby. They are brothers and their parents are Kandace Norby and Jim Norby.
Jaden’s favorite class is Geography and his hobbies are fishing and running. He participates in knowledge bowl, band, football, baseball, and basketball at school. His future plans are to attend college and play college sports.
Christian’s favorite class is math and he enjoys hunting and fishing in his free time. In high school he is involved in National Honor Society, Trap, baseball, basketball, and football. His future plans are to attend college to be an engineer.
Michael is the son of Mike and Amy Maunumaki. His favorite class is Lifetime fitness and he is involved in FFA at school. He enjoys hunting and football. His favorite food and drink are a cheeseburger and Rootbeer. His future plans are to get a job and work after graduation.
Sam is the son of Klair and Deb Sorenson. His favorite class is math and he is involved in band and the school musical. His hobbies are gopher trapping and learning how to drive.His favorite food and drink are hamburgers and Dr. Pepper. After he graduates from high school Sam plans to go to college.
Maizy is the daughter of Linda and Kirby Spangler. Her favorite class is English. She enjoys playing volleyball and drawing. In school she is involved in the school musical, FFA, band, and choir. Her future plans are to become a Meteorologist.
Skyler is the daughter of Brooks and Jodi Hill and Jay and Laurie Melberg. Her favorite class is English. She enjoys reading, working out, listening to music and watching Netflix. In school she is involved choir and is the yearbook editor. Skyler will be attending the University of South Dakota in Vermillion majoring in Early Childhood Special Education.
January Students of the Month are seventh grader Max Gronwold and junior Michael Van Santen.
Max is the son of Michelle and Tom Gronwold. He loves to draw and he plans to participate in the school musical this year. His favorite animal is a Koala. He likes Dr. Pepper, fried potatoes, and Christmas!
Michael is the son of Chad and Kathy Van Santen. His hobbies are hunting and fishing. He plans to attend NDSU after graduation. He is involved in band, NHS, Student Council, FFA, and writes articles for our school newspaper "The Golden Arrow". Some of his favorites are Mellow Yello, Christmas, and baseball.
Jacey's parents are Trever and Christa Schlosser. Jacey enjoys ice skating, paddle boarding, and swimming. Her favorite class is history and her favorite sport is Track. At school Jacey is involved in the school musicals, band, choir, FFA, track, and NHS. Outside of school she is involved in her church youth group and also 4-H. Her future plans are to attend college and become a teacher.
Courtney is the daughter of Randy and Tammy Koefod. Some of her hobbies are watching Netflix and hanging out with friends. Her favorite sport is basketball. At school she is involved in FFA, band, choir, basketball, softball, and volleyball. Courtney is undecided about her future plans at this time.
