September 15, 2014


The School Board of District 261 met in regular session on September 15, 2014 in the Media Center of the School.  Chair Wing called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM with members LaRue, Nelson, Rylander, Spangler, and Wing present.  Absent:  Hoff, Johnson.  Also present were Superintendent Allan Jensen, Principal Shane Tappe, Renee Melby, Carol Koefod, and Camille Schultz.


The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.


LaRue moved to approve the agenda, Spangler seconded.  MCU.


Nelson moved to approve the following consent agenda:
  • Approval of August 18, 2014 minutes.
  • YTD Financial Report.
  • Approval of bills:  August Handpayables: $31,577.23, August Wire Transfers:  $44,441.61, and September bills: $43,312.10.
Rylander seconded.  MCU.


Board Reports
Nelson gave a report on Region 1, Lakes Country Service Coop, and distributed a magazine article and a letter to the editor.


Wing gave a report on the Fergus Falls Special Ed Coop Executive Board Meeting.
 
Principal’s Report
Mr. Tappe reported on the following:
  • The school year is off to a great start.  Special thanks to the great staff that helped during his absence.
  • The Special Ed Para position has been filled.
  • Open House went very well with good attendance.
  • A long term sub will be needed for Mrs. Simon during a maternity leave starting mid December.
  • Homecoming is this week.  John Kent and Heidi Hoff have done a great job with all the events and activities that are planned for the students.
  • The Staff Workshop days were very productive.  The SMART goal for this school year is:  During the 2014-15 school year 95% of students will show positive growth as measured on District Assessments.
  • The Technology Committee met and duties were assigned.
  • The on-line College Math Course was discussed.


Hoff joined the meeting at 6:31 pm.
 
Superintendent’s Report
Mr. Jensen reported on the following:
  • Transportation this school year consists of 4 bus routes, 1 van route, and 1 Special Ed van route.
  • Bus inspection was last week and all vehicles passed.
  • Opening day enrollment was 250.  Pre-School enrollment is 48.
  • Four lunch room tables have been ordered.
  • High School Computer lab chairs have been ordered.
  • Gym floor covering for events has been ordered on a trial offer partially funded with a grant.
  • Preliminary fund balances were presented.  Superintendent Jensen is recommending a permanent transfer of $40,000 from Fund 01 to Fund 04 Early Childhood and Learning Readiness.


Ms. Schultz gave a report on Art.


The meeting paused at 6:58 pm and resumed at 7:42 pm.


Mrs. Koefod gave a report on 2nd Grade and Trap Shooting Club.


Hoff left the meeting at 7:45 pm.


Nelson made a motion to allow students to letter in Trap Shooting.  Rylander seconded.  MCU.


Discussion Items
Vehicle replacement was discussed.


LaRue made a motion to levy the maximum for the Proposed Levy Limitation (Levy 14 Pay 15).  Nelson seconded.  MCU.


Operating Levy was discussed and it was decided to hold a Special Board Meeting on September 24, 2014 at 7:00 pm.


Hoff rejoined the meeting at 8:43 pm.


Action Items
Nelson made a motion to approve Annual Assurance of Compliance with State and Federal Discrimination Laws.  LaRue seconded.  MCU.


Rylander made a motion to approve granting Allan Jensen and Renee Melby authority to electronically transfer funds as allowed by MS471.38 and between Money Market and Checking accounts.  Nelson seconded.  MCU.


Rylander made a motion to set the Truth and Taxation Meeting on Taxes Payable 2015 as December 15, 2014, 6:00 pm.  Spangler seconded.  MCU.


Nelson made a motion to approve work agreements for Andrea Balfanz, Tom Shea, and Any Peterson-bus driver.  Rylander seconded.  MCU.


Chair Wing called the meeting adjourned at 8:52 pm.

September 24, 2014


The School Board of District 261 met in special session on September 24, 2014 in the Media Center of the School.  Chair Wing called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM with members Hoff, Johnson, LaRue, Rylander, Spangler, and Wing present.  Absent:  Nelson.  Also present were Superintendent Allan Jensen, Principal Shane Tappe, Renee Melby, Ben Johnson, George Jordan, Heather Rossum, and Leslie Anderson.


The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.


LaRue moved to approve the agenda, Hoff seconded.  MCU.


There was a discussion on activities and events related to the district’s operating levy informational campaign.  LaRue made a motion to set the informational meeting dates as:  October 22, 2014 at 7:00 PM, and October 29, 2014 at 7:00 PM.  Rylander seconded.  MCU.
