The School Board of District 261 met in regular session on July 16, 2012 in the Media Center of the School.  Chair Wing called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM with members Hoff, Johnson, Nelson, Rylander, Spangler, Van Santen, and Wing present. Also present were Superintendent Allan Jensen, Principal Shane Tappe, Renee Melby, Jeremy Knick, and Dwight Walvatne.


The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.


Rylander moved to approve the amended agenda.  Van Santen seconded.  MCU.


Johnson moved to approve the following consent agenda:
  • Approval of June 18, 2012 minutes.
  • YTD Financial Report.
  • Approval of bills:  June Handpayables: $20,535.93, June Wire Transfers:  $68,485.50 and July bills: $115,615.66.
Spangler seconded.  MCU.


Communications/Delegations
Dwight Walvatne representing Ashby A’s shared with the board improvements needed on the baseball field.  Nelson made a motion to approve the baseball field improvements as discussed.  Van Santen seconded.  MCU.


Board Reports
Nelson gave a report on Lakes Country Service Coop and Region I.


Wing gave a report on Fergus Falls Special Ed Coop.


Superintendent’s Report
Mr. Jensen reported on the following:
  • Bus maintenance has been done and the fleet is ready for inspection and the start of school.
  • Building maintenance is on schedule and will be ready for the start of school.
  • There have been discussions on Technology needs for the Junior class.  There may be some grant funding available for the additional cost.
  • The Administration has a recommendation for the Pre-School and Early Childhood Family Education position.  There will be a meeting Thursday morning to re-structure and expand the Pre-School program.


Principal’s Report
Mr. Tappe reported on the following:
  • It has been a good transition into the position and is appreciative of the help and support from the community, staff, and board.  He is excited to be in a community that shares his passion for a good education.


Mr. Knick gave a report on Basketball Camp and the Elementary Gardens.
 
Discussion Items
MSBA Summer Seminar will be held August 6, 7 in Brooklyn Park.
 
Sports Boosters is looking into a fundraiser to sell advertising signage on the outdoor sports complex.  The Board gave approval of the advertising initiative.


Johnson made a motion to approve a bean bag tournament fundraiser for the Class of 2014.  Spangler seconded.  MCU.


Action Items
Johnson made a motion to approve the FY12, FY13, and FY14 Health and Safety Budgets as presented.  Nelson seconded.  MCU.


Van Santen made a motion to approve memberships in MSBA, MASSP, MASA, MREA, and MASBO for 2012-13.  Rylander seconded.  MCU.


Nelson made a motion to set fees as follows:
     Admission Prices:  Adults $5.00, Students $3.00, Seniors $3.00. 
    
     Season passes:      Fall:  Family $40, Adult $30, Student $20, Seniors $10. 
                                         Winter:  Family $50, Adult $40, Student $20, Seniors $10. 
    
     Activity fees:         Grades 9-12 $50.00/activity, Grades 7-8 $25.00/activity. 
                                    Family maximum $200.00/year.
Rylander seconded.  MCU.
    
Nelson made a motion to set meal prices as follows:

Van Santen made a motion for the Drivers Ed fees to remain the same as follows:
Drivers Ed:  Classroom $75.00, Behind the Wheel $200.00
Spangler seconded.  MCU.


Van Santen made a motion to accept the Bimbo bread bid through Lakes Country Service Coop.  Nelson seconded.  MCU.

Van Santen made a motion to accept:  the diesel fuel bid from T & B Short Stop contingent upon accounting, access, fuel grade, and pricing conditions being met;  the unleaded gasoline and oil bid from Ashby Equity.  Nelson seconded.  MCU.

Van Santen made a motion to accept the vehicle maintenance bid from Evansville Automotive.     Spangler seconded.  MCU.


Rylander made a motion to approve the Pre-School/ECFE Contract for Heather Dewey.  Spangler seconded.  MCU.


Rylander made a motion to accept the following donations:  Johnson-Nelson Masonry $1,800.00 labor and equipment use for the track, Fergus Falls Garden Club $100.00.  Van Santen seconded.  MCU.


Chair Wing called the meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.
