Lisa Otte, Assistant Principal/Dean of Students

It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Assistant Principal of Ashby Public School. I am privileged to lead a school with such a rich tradition of education. I have been in education for 20 years and am licensed as a K-12 Principal and Director of Special Education. In addition, I have a master’s degree in social work.
Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work in various settings, and with a variety of age ranges from Pre-school through High School, including Alternative Learning Centers. My most recent administrative experience was in the Buffalo Lake Hector Stewart School where I served as the Elementary Principal for grades PreK-5. Prior to that, I served as the Dean of Students for grades 9-12 and Educational Leader for the Freshman Academy in the Alexandria Area High School. I was born and raised in Sauk Centre and I am very excited to be back in this area!
My educational philosophy is that students should be at the center of school related decision making. As educators we need to ensure equal opportunities for all students and work to close the achievement gap. There needs to be high and clear expectations along with high standards. Having a system of accountability in place for everyone including students, parents, staff and administration is essential in assisting students to reach their fullest potential.
I am excited to begin working with the students in Ashby Public School, and I look forward to the work we will do together. The African Proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Working together we can accomplish many great things. I am excited to see the students and share with you the great things that they will do throughout the year.
Along with teachers and staff, I will work to build strong relationships with parents, students and community partners. At Ashby Public School we will continue to focus on social-emotional initiatives, use data to drive instruction, and provide consistent implementation of curriculum that will ensure academic success for all students.
Please feel free to call me should you have any concerns throughout the year. I am excited and eager to bring my leadership skills to Ashby Public School and work with you as a partner in education to ensure every child’s success! I look forward to a great school year!
Best Regards,
Ms. Lisa Otte
