February 28th: Good afternoon Arrows - It is time for another drawing of the Arrow Pride Award winners. Hard work is just that… Hard. And though it takes hard work to be successful, being recognized for that hard work makes it all worth it. For some, an end goal or something tangible like a reward drives us to put the time in to be successful. For others, there is intrinsic motivation or yearning to continuously improve to become the best version of ourselves. Regardless of whether you work for a reward or for yourself, we would like to take a moment to recognize those that go above and beyond to make this school one to be proud of. The following students had shown us their best last week and because of that, we would like to reward them with this week’s Arrow Pride Award. When you hear your name called, please come down to the office to pick your reward for your efforts in living and working the Arrow Way. Congratulations to those of you who were picked and good luck to all of you potential winners for next week’s Arrow Pride Awards. Good afternoon Arrows - It is time for another drawing of the Arrow Pride Award Winner. I have to apologize for missing the Arrow Pride Awards last week. I hope the humiliation of dressing up in a dress and getting a few pies in the face made up for my lack of follow-through. Admitting we have made mistakes doesn’t make us weak, in fact, it is the opposite. Mistakes are a part of life. I make at least one mistake a day… At least. Through our mistakes, we live, we hopefully learn, and we grow. This process is ongoing it should be present in all facets of our lives. It is what makes us human and what drives us to do great things. Never be afraid to admit you have made a mistake. Acknowledging that you are a human and that errors can be made is healthy… however, if you are repeating that same mistake and are always apologizing for the same thing, you may need to consider whether or not you really intended to make a change or whether you are just acknowledging the fact that there is a problem. Regardless, live your life willing to make mistakes. Be bold, be brave, be present, and be willing to recognize when you have made a mistake…. Learn from it and move on. The following students had shown us their best last week and because of that, we would like to reward them with this week’s Arrow Pride Award. January 24: ♭What a Wonderful World Good afternoon Arrows - It is time for another drawing of the Arrow Pride Award Winner. Michael Jordan is one of the most recognized names in sports. We have seen his name and face in the NBA, movies, tv commercials and even on clothing and shoes. When talking about his career in the NBA he said “I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. We don’t host the Arrow Pride Awards to always point out those who succeed on a daily basis, but also those who take risks, fail, make mistakes and grow from them. The people who become the most successful in life do so through learning lessons along the way. They adapt, self reflect, work hard despite failure and recognize that though there are dark days, through hard work there most certainly will be light. The following students had shown us their best before leaving for the break and because of that we would like to reward them with this week’s Arrow Pride Award. As Arrows we strive to live and learn The Arrow Way by excelling in academics, being responsible and respectful, taking advantage of all the opportunities bestowed upon us, working hard and finding success in all that we do. What a Wonderful World Good morning Arrows - It is time for another drawing of the Arrow Pride Award Winner. Having a positive mindset doesn’t only apply to academics. Though we tend to focus on academics at school, we also want you to view life and the opportunities around you with a positive outlook as well. Though life can present hardships, daily stressors, and frustrating experiences, we also know that having a positive view of yourself and your life’s circumstances will help you deal with obstacles as they present themselves as well as having better physical health as well. Medical professionals have also seen the link between your life and your attitude. In a recent article from John Hopkins Medine, an author noted many positives health benefits that also come from having a positive outlook on life: Even though we aren’t all born with a sunny disposition, there are things you can do to not only change your day but ultimately help you lead a healthier happier life in and outside of school. Simply smile more. A University of Kansas study found that smiling—even fake smiling—reduces heart rate and blood pressure during stressful situations. So try a few minutes of YouTube humor therapy when you’re stomping your feet waiting in line or fuming over a work or family situation. It’s difficult not to smile while watching a favorite funny video. Practice Reframing. Instead of stressing about an upcoming test, problems with friends or the Vikings recent loss to the 49ers, spend a few extra minutes listening to music or watching a funny video, accepting that there is absolutely nothing you can do about the Vikings ability to pull through during a big game. Build resiliency. Resiliency is the ability to adapt to stressful and/or negative situations and losses. Experts recommend these key ways to build yours:

Congratulations to those of you who were picked and good luck to all of you potential winners for next week’s Arrow Pride Awards. Good morning Arrows - It is time for another drawing of the Arrow Pride Award Winner and the first of 2020. I would first like to welcome you back to school after a long winter break. I hope that all of you enjoyed time with friends and family. For many, the new year brings the hope of something new and better. A chance to right some wrongs, build on the positives and to approach the following weeks and months and hopefully year with a positive outlook. Unfortunately for some families in our area, the new year brings uncertainty, like the Boels family and Brandon Evansville community who will now be looking to move on from losing loved ones and trying to begin a new normal without some of their loved ones around them. Though it is easy to look at what went wrong in 2019, I think it is always important to look back at what went right and to reflect on the blessings and good fortunes we had as well. Be thankful for your friends and family, be fortunate for the gifts you have been given and remember that life in itself is something to be thankful for not just during the new year but every day. Congratulations to those of you who were picked and good luck to all of you potential winners for next week’s Arrow Pride Awards. Good afternoon Arrows - It is time for another drawing of the Arrow Pride Award Winner. As we count down the days to Christmas break, why not do it with a pep in your step. Though the holidays can be a busy and stressful time for many of us, as with most things in life, we can choose the attitude we have and the behaviors we project. Throughout this week we are having various activities that bring out the best in all of us while having fun at the same time. Today and tomorrow we are playing bingo to help support families in our area, other organizations will be spreading cheer in other ways and we will cap off the week with a movie in the gym surrounded by friends. Whatever your plans are over the next couple weeks, whether it is heading over to grandma and grandpas, aunts, uncles, mom or dads, remember that the important thing is that you take the time to appreciate those around you, the times you have together however long or short and that you participate in conversations with family members you otherwise would not have. Enjoy this special time of year and remember that you control your attitude. As for me, I plan on rocking my through the holidays just like the songs say. The following students have shown us their best last week in learning and living the Arrow Way. I ask that the following students please come down to collect their Arrow Pride Award and to choose their reward for their efforts. As Arrows we strive to live and learn The Arrow Way by excelling in academics, being responsible and respectful, taking advantage of all the opportunities bestowed upon us, working hard and finding success in all that we do. Congratulations to those of you who were picked and good luck to all of you potential winners for next week’s Arrow Pride Awards. December 10th Good afternoon Arrows - It is time for another drawing of the Arrow Pride Award Winner. Sometimes we all need a little incentive to push ourselves through the holiday season. Parents by this time of the year are scratching their heads trying to find ways to get kids to bed on time, brush their teeth, or even do their homework. Santa for many families is a great person to oversee what we are doing in our everyday lives to make sure we don’t end up on the naughty list. I am sure there is even a teacher or two who have used the phrase “You better not shout, you better not cry, you better not pout, I’m telling you why…” Though we are all working towards being on the nice list through the month of December, I feel we don’t need the incentive of Santa to do what is right at school, at home, and in our community. We can make a choice every day to spread cheer, work hard, and take advantage of all the opportunities we have all on our own. You may not be ready for it, but it is that time of year again. The ground is covered in snow, people are putting up Christmas Lights, ugly sweaters are getting pulled out of the closet. Though many people grumble about the month of December and the holidays, the truth is it brings out the best of most of us. Organizations are spending time collecting food and other essentials for those in need, we get together with friends and family we haven’t seen in many cases all year and we take the time to look back at the year and reminisce on the good, reflect on the bad, and develop our plans for the future. It is unfortunate that we need to wait all year to give ourselves to others, to celebrate with family and friends and to reflect on what has happened over the course of the year. It is something we should be doing as frequently as we can. As we move through this month, make a point to offer acts of kindness not only here at school but where ever you go. You never know who is watching and just may return the favor. Good afternoon Arrows - It is time for another drawing of the Arrow Pride Award Winner. Keeping up with the Jone’s was a saying that originated from a comic strip that ran from the early 1900s to the 1940s. The saying refers to people trying to keep up with their neighbors with everything from the size of the house one has to cars, clothes, etc. This keeping up with the Joneses has people always trying to one-up each other. Social media has made this worse by adding filters to just about anything, giving people the impression that each one of us has a perfect life. Though we are always striving to better ourselves, this should be done for our own good and the perception of ourselves, not the perception of others. Thanksgiving is a great time for us to reflect on the many positives we have. For one, I am thankful I get to come to work with groups of staff and students who believe in lifting each other up to be there best and the welcomes everyone in with open arms. Take a moment this week to appreciate the good things you have. We all have our own baggage and nobody is perfect. Be thankful for those who are in your life, the opportunities you have and the gifts you use every day. As Arrows we strive to live and learn The Arrow Way by excelling in academics, being responsible and respectful, taking advantage of all the opportunities bestowed upon us, working hard and finding success in all that we do. We are what makes this school a special place to work and learn.
