Good afternoon Arrows - It is time for another drawing of the Arrow Pride Award Winner. Keeping up with the Jone’s was a saying that originated from a comic strip that ran from the early 1900s to the 1940s. The saying refers to people trying to keep up with their neighbors with everything from the size of the house one has to cars, clothes, etc. This keeping up with the Joneses has people always trying to one-up each other. Social media has made this worse by adding filters to just about anything, giving people the impression that each one of us has a perfect life. Though we are always striving to better ourselves, this should be done for our own good and the perception of ourselves, not the perception of others. Thanksgiving is a great time for us to reflect on the many positives we have. For one, I am thankful I get to come to work with groups of staff and students who believe in lifting each other up to be there best and the welcomes everyone in with open arms. Take a moment this week to appreciate the good things you have. We all have our own baggage and nobody is perfect. Be thankful for those who are in your life, the opportunities you have and the gifts you use every day. As Arrows we strive to live and learn The Arrow Way by excelling in academics, being responsible and respectful, taking advantage of all the opportunities bestowed upon us, working hard and finding success in all that we do. We are what makes this school a special place to work and learn.
Congratulations to those of you who were picked and good luck to all of you potential winners for next week’s Arrow Pride Awards.

Good afternoon Arrows - It is time for another drawing of the Arrow Pride Award Winners. Arrow Pride is meant to be deeper than a surface level attempt to address school culture. In order for us all to enact true change, students, staff, and our community need to look at what is important in this house of ours and instill the character traits we feel are important to you every day. All of you have a role in this as well. Our school is what we make of it. This lies in all of us taking ownership of not only the way we study and behave but also in the way we look at our school and its culture. Being True to your school goes beyond the pepfest and the Arrow gear, it lies in the way we treat our school, how we treat each other and how we treat ourselves. With this in mind, Be true to our school by doing your part in making sure our school is clean and picked up, be true to our school by going out of your way to do something nice for a friend, a teacher, classmate, underclassman, or a community member, and be true to your school by taking care of yourself. Get the sleep you need, handle your stress in healthy ways, do your work and always do your best. Be True to Our School and this house we continue to build every day. November 11th Good afternoon Arrows - It is time for another drawing of the Arrow Pride Award Winner. After a long weekend, it can be challenging to get back in the swing of things. This, even more, is the case when the day doesn’t play out the way you had intended. Its times like these that help us remember that we are not always responsible for the situation we are put in, but we are responsible for how we respond to it. When life seems to throw us curve balls and we can’t explain it, or want to deal with it, I remember the following lines from the book “Make Your Bed” by Admiral William H. McRaven. While talking about Navy Seal training he says: “Several times a week, the instructors would line up the class and do a uniform inspection. It was exceptionally thorough. Your hat had to be perfectly starched, your uniform immaculately pressed and your belt buckle shiny and void of any smudges. But it seemed that no matter how much effort you put into starching your hat, or pressing your uniform or polishing your belt buckle — it just wasn't good enough. The instructors would find “something” wrong. For failing the uniform inspection, the student had to run, fully clothed into the surf zone and then, wet from head to toe, roll around on the beach until every part of your body was covered with sand. The effect was known as a “sugar cookie.” You stayed in that uniform the rest of the day — cold, wet and sandy. There were many a student who just couldn't accept the fact that all their effort was in vain. That no matter how hard they tried to get the uniform right, it was unappreciated. Those students didn't make it through training. Those students didn't understand the purpose of the drill. You were never going to succeed. You were never going to have a perfect uniform. Sometimes no matter how well you prepare or how well you perform you still end up as a sugar cookie. It's just the way life is sometimes. If you want to change the world get over being a sugar cookie and keep moving forward.” The following students have shown us their best last week in learning and living the Arrow Way. They were able to take on tasks that are challenging and can make the best out of any situation. Good morning Arrows - It is time for another drawing of the Arrow Pride Award Winner. With quarter 1 behind us and the start of quarter two in full swing, it’s important to take a step back and reflect on the time we have been here this fall and make a choice on how we want the following quarter to go. Self-awareness and reflection are a great step in the process of having a growth mindset. But being aware of our strengths and weaknesses and identifying where we can grow will only get so far. Creating a plan and following through on that plan is essential to our growth, whether it be in academics, social-emotional, athletics, or in our home and personal lives. This quarter, go beyond the awareness and make a stand to follow through on the areas you want to grow in. All of us are a work in progress, but taking a stand and making positive changes to support our growth is for those who are strong enough to carry through on their dreams and aspirations to become the person they want to be. These character traits are what helped shape the Arrow Way and today we celebrate those who have stood their ground and made the tough choices to be their very best selves on a regular basis.
